EXTRA INFORMATION
2-pin magnetic brake sensor for Zoom levers
Brake cut-off sensor designed for Zoom levers, which are fitted to many electric scooters. It cuts off the power to the motor as soon as the lever is activated – a requirement under the regulations and checked at every service.
Operation
The sensor is magnetic: no moving parts, no mechanical wear on the contact. A magnet attached to the lever closes the circuit when the lever is squeezed. The contact is normally open: it does not conduct when at rest and closes when braking.
Specifications
Total length 160 cm. Two-pin male connector. Weight 36 g.
Fitting
The sensor fits in the original position on the lever and connects to the existing wiring harness. No adjustment is required, but the gap between the magnet and the sensor must remain as per the original fitment: if it is too wide, the contact will no longer be made when the lever is squeezed.
Diagnosis
A machine that no longer accelerates, intermittent stalling whilst riding, or a brake that no longer cuts out the engine: all three symptoms are linked to this sensor. Test for continuity across both pins, with the lever at rest and then clamped. On a normally open contact, a broken cable or a loose connector will produce no braking signal, and the engine cut-off will cease without any warning light coming on. Check the connector before suspecting the controller.
